The titles below represent a number of our German texts dealing with topics of interest
for the World War 2 period. By and large, these books come highly
recommended as long as the non-German speaking reader knows what he is getting into. For
those of you with some knowledge of German, these books are a gold mine of information.
Chronique
de la SS-Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 10
(Formation, Buczacz,
Normandie, Arnhem, Pomeranie, Halbe) (Stephane Cazenave
)
This exceptional
volume is a comprehensive account of one small formation in the 10.
SS-Panzer-Division "Frundsberg".
Comprising the
contributions of some 20 veterans, the book contains many previously unpublished
photographs of the Sd.Kfz. 250/251 and the Panzerspähwagen (armored
reconnaissance vehicles). It provides a detailed account of its training in
France and of all the fighting it participated in fom Tarnopol in the Ukraine to
Normandy.
The author has
compiled detailed lists showing the members of each company and provides
detailed biographies of each of the officers who served and fought, with
particular attention being given to those who received top awards such as the
Knight's Cross and the German Cross in Gold. Several elements in particular are
singled out for special treatment, with one being Erich Rech's Spähtrupp (Rech
received the Knight's cross for the operations of his unit in Normandy). Lists
of losses and honors support the study.

21.
Panzerdivision, 1943-1945 by Werner Kortenhaus.
This is a
hardcover reprint of Werner Kortenhaus' privately published history of the
division. Almost impossible to get, with many collectors never even knowing it
existed, our own author, Wolfgang Schneider, has brought it out in German.
The book is in German, however, and the photo alone probably do not warrant
getting the book, if that is the primary thing you are after. Here's the German
jacket blurb:

Hardcover, small format (6"x8"), 606 pages, with 16 photo pages and 16 maps. The original title
did not have any photos or maps, so Schneider has improved the original book
considerably. Price: $70 USD / CAD / INT

ARANDT
Ostpreussen
1944/45 im Bild "East Prussia 1944/45 in Photos"
Never was so harrowing a picture of the desperate struggle for Germany's
easternmost province and its people seen. With the large Soviet offensive of
January 1945, endless refugees tried to reach the Baltic Sea ports which were
lost to the Russians. While the Navy under Admiral Donitz evacuated hundreds of
thousands of civilians, the German army was struggling grimly to hold every
square meter of German soil. Dramatic large scale photographs, often in color,
show the whole desperate struggle - to the bitter end.
